Plasma Medicine is an emerging field of development that has its beginnings in plasma science but now includes a broad interdisciplinary discipline involving medicine, biology, physics, chemistry and engineering. APP focus in this area of development is with treatment of chronic wounds and ambient temperature sterilization.
Chronic Wound Disinfection
APP is developing its technology into an Atmospheric Plasma Wound Applicator for chronic wound disinfection. Chronic wounds are an ideal environment for bacterial infection and biofilm formation. Recent data has shown that biofilm plays a significant role in the physiology of the majority of chronic wounds. Despite numerous advances, chronic wounds continue to be a treatment challenge and new technologies that are effective and easily used without the risk of causing bacterial resistance are needed.
Medical Device Sterilization
APP’s plasma technology lends itself to various medical instrument sterilization tasks. Our OAUGDP approach can be implemented in a very competitive benchtop configuration, with no ongoing consumable costs that competing products incur.
APP is developing an Atmospheric Plasma Produce Disinfection System, an in-line processing unit that will continuously treat fresh produce to minimize foodborne illness outbreaks and increase shelf life by reducing the number of pathogen and spoilage organisms on fresh produce.
