The PlasmaGen APR-510 provides a simple; one-step means to release nucleic acid for amplification without the need for cumbersome protocols or multiple reagents. Furthermore, the ongoing costs associated with DNA preparation kits are avoided. This product rapidly provides nucleic acid for PCR, even from very difficult samples such as bacterial endospores.
The key advantage the PlasmaGen APR-510 offers is the ability to use one instrument for all types of microorganisms including bacteria, yeasts, fungal spores, and viruses. Independent third party testing has verified that the PlasmaGen releases amplifiable DNA from three diverse species (two structurally unrelated bacteria and a fungal species) in a mixed sample with the push of a button.
As shown in the graph below, the concentration of free DNA in treated samples is measured by increases in absorbance at 260 nm as compared to untreated samples. Treatment for 1.5 minutes leads to a 10 fold increase in the concentration of DNA in solution. A 2 minute treatment leads to a 16 fold increase.
Using other advanced analytical methods such as real-time PCR, APP’s scientists have shown that a 1.5 min treatment with no additional purification has led to a one-thousand fold increase in the amount of DNA available for analysis.
